How to disable Messenger

Deactivate Facebook from PC

As both functionalities belong to the same company, they are associated with your Facebook account, this means that you cannot deactivate Messenger without first deactivate your facebook account.

  1. Sign in to Facebook and go to the upper right corner, and then to Settings and privacy > Settings
  2. Click on Your information on Facebook > Deactivation and deletion.
  3. Continue with “Deactivate account» and press the blue button below to confirm.
  4. What you get with this is that, temporarily, your profile will not be visible to your other contacts and no one will be able to send you messages. That is if, once you log back in, your Facebook profile will be activated again.

Disable Messenger on iOS

Once you have done the previous step, try the following:

  1. Open the Messenger app on your Apple mobile.
  2. Go into chat in the top left-hand corner.
  3. go to Setting > Your Facebook information > Delete your account and information.
  4. Click on Deactivatetype your password to confirm it and hit Send.

Disable Messenger on Android

  1. Open the app from the applications menu.
  2. go to chat up to the left.

  4. Both for this case and for iOS, when the app is re-entered, Messenger is activated again.

How to use Facebook with Messenger disabled

There is an option with which you can get rid of annoying Messenger notifications, and still continue using Facebook as you have been doing every day:

  1. Uninstall the Messenger app on your mobile. This is important as otherwise you would turn Facebook back on as it is just like logging in.
  2. Sign in to Facebook from the mobile browser and on the right side click on the three points that you will see right next to your contacts.
  3. click on disable active state so that you no longer appear online to your contacts.
  4. You can choose between only some contacts or with all, when you have your choice, click on accept.
